ProEmpower is progressing well in phase III of the pre-commercial procurement process, with the two solutions being tested in the four pilot sites (hospitals and health centers in Istanbul, Turkey; Naples, Italy; Murcia, Spain; and Lisbon, Portugal).
Approx. 400 patients are actively testing the solutions. First results and user feedback are very promising.
Turkish news agency Demirören has reported on the experience of the Turkish pilot site - Ümraniye Training and Research Hospital in Istanbul. Patients with type 2 diabetes included in the pilot are provided with Bluetooth-connected glucometers, blood pressure monitors, scales and smart trackers. Data from those devices is transferred automatically to the healthcare professionals involved in the patient’s care, enabling them to provide better and more reactive diabetes care also for patients who live in more remote areas and cannot travel frequently. The Ümraniye team of health professionals, led by Dr. Sema Basat, is already reporting that close to 90% of the patients monitored in their homes via the ProEmpower solutions have returned to normal glucose values: “There is no one-day treatment after diagnosis of diabetes. Lifelong follow-up is required. Thanks to this project, we can monitor our patients more closely. Patients also see their own data regularly. The patient can reach the physician very easily and can easily transmit their own data to the physician. ”
Nuran Arslan (46), who has been suffering from diabetes for about nine years, is one of the patients included in the study. Using these devices given to her at home for three months, she reported that she is enabled to measure her sugar levels, blood pressure, weight, exercise regimen and even diet follow-up via daily meals. Due to the fact that Nuran is taking care of her mother permanently, she has had little time to visit the doctor regularly, and has done so only once in the last year. Using the ProEmpower solution has given her the ability to have her diabetes under control via remote consultation. “I used to measure my sugar maybe once a month. Now I measure regularly every day. I follow my blood pressure, weight, meals better and my data is instantly transferred to the doctor's computer. I can communicate with my doctor very easily without leaving my house. Anyone who is literate can use these devices and system very easily.”
